My first real Wikipedia article

When my mom moved out of her last place, she entrusted me with a few precious family heirlooms: my grandfather's badges, our original Woodstock poster, and some various boxes from my mother's youth.

In it, I found a virtual cornucopia of things from both my mother's and my grandfather's legacy- including several articles about my grandfather. Armed with vast internet resources (my grandfather's death was even announced on MTV News- it was very hard to turn on the television right after he died because it seemed the notices were everywhere) and now real newspaper clippings, I finally accomplished something I had wanted to do for years: write his Wikipedia article. It is somewhat fitting that I accomplished this a little after the 10 year anniversary of his death.

Please read it and feel free to comment here or on the talk page (or, hey, it's on Wikipedia so you can just edit it.) =D

hello to disappointed people,

shipping costs

Posted by [info]i_seldom_do on 2008.07.15 at 12:03
wanted to make a quick post about the shipping cost for the next print 'If Only You Were Here'.

unframed and framed for US: $20
unframed and framed for international: $30

the reason why the cost is the same for framed and unframed
is due to a technical issue on the shopping cart system.
obviously the cost to ship framed will be more than unframed,
and so part of that shipping & handling for framed is included in the cost of $450.
hope that makes sense.
;)

edit: also when you register please make sure you spell your email correctly.
(we've been getting things like "homail"s and "hotmial"s, etc....)
so if you havent received a confirmation email, this is why.
we are working on it though, and will be resending confirmation emails soon.

news!

hello!

and big announcement!

if you purchased or have tried to purchase prints in the past
you know that we've had lots of technical troubles.
since we were handling most of it manually, things tended to get out of hand,
and weren't running as smoothly and properly as we would have liked it to.

so my friend, Danny, has been working long and hard on this new system,
in order to make the print sale experience a better one.

for anyone who would like to purchase a print at anytime in the future,
you can go ahead and register by making an account on my site.
just your email & billing/shipping address etc.
this will allow us to make the check out process much smoother. and more fair.
(if you do not register, you will not be able to make any purchases.)

we will still announce when a print will be sold
and before the sale happens,
you must log on, and wait for the sale to begin,
clicking 'purchase' at the right time will reserve your print,
and then you will have 5 min. to complete the purchase.
(if the purchase isn't complete in that time, the print is made available to the next person in line.)
you will get a confirmation email if the order goes through.
and WALA!

~an incredible amount of time and work and detail has gone into this on Danny's end,
and to someone like me, who has absolutely no idea how web back-end technical things work,
i am completely grateful for his crazily wicked skills.
Thankyou to mr. Daniel-san!! ;)

Don't fuck with vegans. Or Bjork.

The first five minutes of this is good. Oh yeah, this isn't safe for work.

In Key West, FL! Mattie and I noted that the keys have changed a good bit since we last drove down about 2 years ago. But then, that had also been after 2 bad hurricane seasons and this is after 2 years of no hurricanes. So there were a lot more keys than we remembered and a LOT more vegetation.

When I went to Ft. Lauderdale 2 weeks ago, I noted that both Andre's Steakhouse and Sterlingworth Cafe went out-of-business. Going down to the keys, I didn't see The Pier or the giant lobster for the Pirate Mall. Also, Key West has grown quite a bit. Rooftop Cafe is still in business though, despite a fire earlier this year. So that is very good as it's our favorite restaurant in Key West.

Michael and Allison are getting married on the beach today so it's time to sunscreen up and get ready!

Finally. It took work to get this apache front-end configured properly

Posted by [info]daniele on 2008.07.11 at 16:45
I've spent most of the day trying to get an Apache 2.2 server set up to do both LDAP authentication and AJP proxying to a tomcat back-end.

The trickiest parts were translating changes from Apache 2.0's implementation of auth_ldap.

In 2.0, the following directory directives were needed to do group based authentication:

AuthType Basic
AuthName "Use your ldap username/password"
AuthLDAPBindDN xxx
AuthLDAPBindPassword xxx
AuthLDAPURL ldap://server/o=xxx?xxx
Require group cn=xxx,ou=groups

However, in 2.2, the syntax changed slightly and the following was what it took for me to get it going:

AuthType Basic
AuthName "Use your ldap username/password"
#AuthBasicProvider defaults to file so it is required if you aren't loading mod_authn_file
AuthBasicProvider ldap
AuthLDAPBindDN xxx
AuthLDAPBindPassword xxx
AuthLDAPUrl ldap://server/o=xxx?xxx
#It is now ldap-group instead of just group
Require ldap-group cn=xxx, ou=groups

Before I put the AuthBasicProvider ldap directive in place, I was getting an error in the logs:
configuration error: couldn't check user. No user file?: /

It took me a longer time to figure out the ldap-group vs group problem. In the logs, I was seeing incorrect password attempts being logged properly, but if I typed the right password, there was nothing in the log but the authorization dialog was just redisplayed in the browser.
I imagine that maybe if I tweaked some log settings somewhere I'd find that it was possible to see the Require directive failing.

Also note that most auth_ldap examples show putting the directives in a <Directory> section. Well, if you are using mod_proxy or mod_proxy_ajp, there is no directory so you put the auth directives in a <Location /> section instead.
